Pronouns: “They” strictly referred to groups of people until the 1300’s, when it began to take on a singular form too – as in, “Let’s find the owner of this lost wallet, I’m sure they would want it back.” Just goes to show how we evolve and change language throughout history to suit our needs as a society! Thanks @ashton

So if anyone tries to use language or grammar to invalidate your nonbinary identity or pronouns, you can remind them that the rules of our language are always changing. Lavender: Better see y’all out there wearing lavender now! From Sappho’s WLW/lesbian poetry, to Oscar Wilde’s gay poems, to protest songs, periods of discrimination, political rallies, and…even Abraham Lincoln(?!), the color lavender has been intertwined with our LGBTQ+ history! Some schools even have a “lavender graduation” just for queer students. 💜 @Lavender Space

Transgender Population: Ok Gen Z making those numbers RISE UP! 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈 When we look at younger age groups, a higher percentage of adults identify as trans or nonbinary, and LGBTQ+in general. And these specific surveys don’t count queer youth under 18, which means overall numbers are likely much higher! Just goes to show how younger people today have more resources, education, and opportunity to be their authentic selves. @SStwins

Gay: The word “gay” has a long history that didn’t always mean what it means today! Starting as a term that meant happy, merry, joyful, or showy, it later emerged as a term to refer cheekily to sex workers and their establishments, implying they were “carefree” or uninhibited, and had the opposite of a “straight-edged” lifestyle. Not until the mid 20th century in the 1950’s did it really start to refer specifically to “homosexuals,” which would have been the more common term at the time. Thanks @S T A R B O I ✨

Gender Non-confirmity: Lesbian history 🤝 gender non-conformity! Throughout history, some lesbians have been exploring and experimenting with gender identity and masculinity, from dressing in a more masculine way to using HRT or even getting top surgery. So this is our reminder that all lesbians – butch, femme, nonbinary, and everywhere in between – are valid. 💪 @ashton
