Spring 2023: Queer Comics

In a small Texas town, Kai is a bullied, non binary student in middle school who must hide their animal superpowers. After an altercation with the popular girl, Skylar, her and her friends mock Kai’s gender identity, and later, Skylar transforms into a villain named Kurse. It’s up to Kai to help Skylar overcome her curse and save the town. As they struggle to save the school and the town from Skylar’s destructive behavior, Kai pleads with her to think positively, reminding her of her own greatness and beauty.

Aiden, a ghost pranking the school he once attended, is discovered by the school’s latest student Riley, a happy-go-lucky lover of the paranormal. Riley’s attempts to befriend the lone poltergeist causes his anger to build until he eventually explodes in a fit of rage.

When Phi finds that their best friend Kaminska is missing, they know exactly who’s to blame for her absence. Eager to bring their best friend back, Phi goes to the man responsible, Olias, and demands that he take them to the surface to retrieve Kaminska before it’s too late. Believing that the surface world is nothing but a dangerous nuclear wasteland, Phi discovers through their journey that it’s so much more. That the fairytale they’d chalked down to just be the ramblings of a madman was in fact the truth about the world that’s struck fear into their home for centuries.

The comic follows the protagonist, “Astor,” who struggles with self-doubt and feelings of inadequacy. While walking with their nose in a book, Astor falls into a pond and is transported to a fantasy world. After that, what will they experience in this world to become a confident person.
