VOLUNTEER – Youth Outreach

We’re currently seeking multiple Volunteers to assist our education staff in our youth outreach efforts, which primarily entails visiting schools and other community spaces to present our best stories to LGBTQ+ young people and their peers (see itgetsbetter.org/lesson/screenings-readings to learn more). Both in-person opportunities in the Los Angeles area and remote opportunities are available elsewhere in the United States.

Duties:
  • Represent the It Gets Better Project at a variety of youth-oriented events, including (but not limited to) GSA meetings, school assemblies, and Pride events
  • Speak to the It Gets Better Project’s history and mission – as well as the organization’s growing portfolio of videos, films, books, and more – in a group or audience setting
  • Moderate and/or host screenings, book readings, presentations, workshops, and more connected to the work of the It Gets Better Project (training will be provided)
  • Distribute merchandise and materials in exchange for donations at in-person events

Requirements:

  • Strong aptitude for public speaking and interpersonal communication
  • Ability to tell your own personal story in connection to the larger LGBTQ+ global movement
  • Ample experience working and engaging with youth ages 11-24
  • Familiarity with the G Suite by Google Cloud (particularly Google Slides)
  • Pass a complete background check

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Verbal fluency in both English and Spanish
  • Ability to carry loads of up to 25 pounds
