The It Gets Better Project is proud to announce the launch of IT GETS BETTER INDIA! The incredible team chartering this effort is led by hotelier & LGBTQ+ activist Keshav Suri and the recently established Keshav Suri Foundation that works to uplift India’s marginalized LGBTQ+ community.
The launch of our newest affiliate was announced in-person and online during the recent ‘Queering the Pitch – Agents of Change’ conference hosted in New Delhi by The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group in partnership with FICCI (The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry). This historic conference brought together thought leaders from corporate India, NGOs, content creators, political and legal fraternities, and more.
Reflecting on this symposium, Dr. Jyotsna Suri, Chairperson and Managing Director of The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group, said,
“I am proud to initiate this unique platform where relevant people can engage in a meaningful dialogue about the extremely marginalized LGBTQ community. We need to break the stereotyped image of the community, accept them socially and mainstream them professionally and economically.”
As an official affiliate of It Gets Better Project, It Gets Better India will be joining an expanding global network working to uplift, empower and connect LGBTQ+ youth around the globe through storytelling & community building. Excited about the endeavor, Keshav Suri said,
“We are glad that Section 377 has been read down. However, we have merely scratched the surface. Building off the success of the It Gets Better campaign, the Keshav Suri Foundation will illustrate HOW it CAN Get Better in the Indian context. The Foundation aims to provide employable skills to the community and sensitize organizations on more diverse & inclusive practices.”
Brian Wenke, Executive Director, It Gets Better Project says,
“Young LGBTQ+ people everywhere deserve to hear the stories of their community. We are so proud to welcome It Gets Better India to our global network of storytellers – all united under the banner of creating a better world for the LGBTQ+ youth. With a footprint now spanning four continents, the It Gets Better movement is getting stronger everyday.”
