WWII trans veteran Robina Asti accomplished incredible things in her 99 years. From the missions she flew as a pilot in World War II to her work as an activist in her 90’s — she set a precedent that rewrote the government’s policy for transgender widow benefits — Robina Asti spent a lifetime breaking barriers.

In recent years, she created the Cloud Dancers Foundation to support the “invisible” members of the LGBTQ+ community. Dubbed the “world’s oldest pilot,” she was even training to set the world record.

Robina passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday. She would have turned 100 on April 7.

Last November, in honor of Veteran’s Day, Robina talked with retired United States Navy SEAL Kristin Beck for a special It Gets Better video. Titled “99 & Shattering Records,” she had us in awe of her seemingly unstoppable determination and her positive outlook on life — both hers and life in general.

Thanks for the incredible legacy, Robina.
