For those of you who don’t know, ILGA Europe is an international, non-governmental network organization that works to bring together over 400 LGBT+ organizations from across 45 European countries. It was established as a separate regional organization of the International LGBTI Association (ILGA) in 1996. ILGA Europe’s main work exists in advocating for human rights and equality for LGBTI people at a European level before organizations such as the EU and the Council of Europe. The organization also works to strengthen the European LGBTI movement by providing training and support to its member organizations and other LGBTI groups through events like the Annual Conference.
The theme for this year’s conference (#IEAthens2015) is “Many Voices, One Movement.” Seeing that this is the first time that representatives from the Project will be at an ILGA conference together, the theme couldn’t be more perfect! Staff from the It Gets Better Project (USA) will be joined by represenatives from our affiliate projects in Moldova – Egali – and in Switzerland – Es Wird Besser Schweiz.
The group will also be joined by Diogo Silva, the current director of our affilaite project in Portugal – Tudo Vai Melhorar (to find out more about this affiliate project, click the picture below). Diogo will be attending the conference on scholarship from the It Gets Better Project. This marks the first occasion in which the Project has offered a scholarship to one of its affiliate project represenatives to attend and report back on such an incredible event, but we hope its just the beginning of many more to come!
To all of our European friends who will also be attending the 2015 Annual Conference, please don’t miss out on the excellent activities in which the It Gets Better Project representatives will be participating. First off, you will find Justin Tindall, the Project’s Manager of Global Partnerships, on the “Mobilizing the Community Online” panel taking place on Thursday, Oct. 29 at 4:30pm in the Olympia room at the Divani Caravel Hotel.
That same day, you’ll find the entire It Gets Better Project International team hosting a special event at 6pm in the hotel’s Vergina room. At this event, attendees will have the chance to see the European premiere of “It Got Better,” the online docuseries brought to by the It Gets Better Project and Lexus (L/Studios). The series features notable LGBT figures like RuPaul, Portia di Rossi, Laverne Cox, Tegan & Sara, George Takei, and more telling their own personal stories of LGBT triumph. Don’t miss it!
But that’s not all! There will also be some surprising announcements made during the event that you’ll definitely want to hear. Click here or on the picture below to find out more about the event (and please RSVP!). We can’t wait to see you.
For those of you who won’t be attending the conference, we’ll definitely be uploading a post-conference review here on our International Blog, so don’t forget to check it out sometime in November. We’d also like to acknowledge that the 2015 Annual Conference is possible thanks to the support of the following organizations in Greece:
